Vision

Build a vibrant community at IISER Bhopal that advances geoscience, remote sensing and geospatial AI through learning, research and collaboration.

Goals

  1. Bring experts to campus through a monthly lecture series.
  2. Build hands-on skills through workshops.
  3. Grow research culture through a paper-reading group and mentoring.
  4. Compete through a hackathon and the GRSS Student Grand Challenge.
  5. Connect members to IGARSS, InGARSS, travel grants, the GRSS MP Chapter and the student chapter at IIT Indore.
  6. Grow membership across Earth Sciences, EECS and Data Science and Engineering.

Where we fit

A student branch chapter has two parents: the geographic unit and the society.

IEEE side

IEEE → Region 10 (Asia-Pacific) → IEEE Madhya Pradesh Section → IEEE Student Branch, IISER Bhopal → GRSS Student Branch Chapter

Society side

IEEE GRSS → IEEE GRSS Madhya Pradesh Chapter (IIT Indore) → GRSS Student Branch Chapter, IISER Bhopal, with the GRSS student chapter at IIT Indore as a sister chapter.

How the chapter was formed

  1. Petition submitted to IEEE by the founding student members, with Dr. Vaibhav Kumar as proposed Faculty Advisor.
  2. Student Branch Counselor record updated; endorsements by the Counselor and the Faculty Advisor completed.
  3. Chapter formally approved by IEEE after Region, Student Activities and Society President approvals.
  4. First officer team elected: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Webmaster.
  5. Student Chapter Orientation, the first general meeting, with 34 participants.
  6. Expert Talk 1 by Dr. Koyel Sur, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, the first lecture of the Expert Talk Series.
